Merit is currently looking for a Yard and Warehouse Laborer for our location. 

Summary of Functions

  • The Yard & Warehouse Laborer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Warehouse in partnership with the Yard Foreman. The Yard & Warehouse Laborer helps ensure job sites are safely equipped with the proper equipment, materials, and tools necessary.  Additionally, the Yard & Warehouse Laborer is available for maintenance and janitorial responsibilities for the office, shop, and yard facilities.

Warehouse

In addition to the summary functions, the warehouse personnel is responsible for the following duties, but are not limited to:

  • Loading/Unloading trailers – interaction with suppliers, vendors, and delivery personnel

  • Delivery of materials to job site locations using company vehicles, trailers, and equipment

  • Inventory Handling

  • Ordering materials

  • Check-in and inventory control management within Sage accounting system

  • Warehouse maintenance and cleanliness

  • Other general warehouse duties

Fleet Management & Mechanical

  • Inspects, repairs, and maintains functional parts of automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery such as pumps, compressors, trucks, forklifts, scissor lifts and small engine powered equipment-using hoists, hand tools, gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and testing devices.

  • Inspects defective equipment and diagnoses malfunctions. Operates equipment to test its functioning.

  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and tools.

  • Fleet management including washing and cleaning equipment, changes oil, checks batteries, repairs tire and tubes, checks and repairs lights and other safety equipment and lubricates equipment and machinery.

Requirements

  • Class B Driver’s License (preferred, but not required)

  • MN DOT card (provided upon hire if not currently active)

  • State of MN DOT INSP License (preferred, but not required)

  • Forklift Experience

  • Ability to complete general mechanical repairs on hand tools, and small engines, etc.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with Foreman and Management

  • Effective time management skills

  • Ability to supervise additional employees in the yard areas when the need arises

  • Must be able to work at heights

Skills Needed to Perform the Job

  • Training and experience in the maintenance and repair of motorized vehicles and machinery

  • The ability to carry a minimum of at least 50 pounds to be able to haul materials and equipment

  • Cooperation of drug and alcohol testing in compliance with DOT requirements

  • Coordinate distribution of material and equipment

  • Management of snow removal

  • Ability to use a computer for emails and inventory process

  • Welding and Fabricating

  • Must have tools and meters

  • Provide support to other departments
