Residential Roofing Foreman

Merit is currently looking for a Residential Roofing Foreman to join our team. We mainly work in Rochester but do travel to surrounding areas and Iowa.

Job Description

Summary of functions:
The Foreman performs a variety of duties relating to the application of roofing materials. Removes existing roofs and covers structural decks with roofing materials including slate, asphalt shingles, tile, cedar, single-ply roofing membranes as trained. Lays and adheres insulation by mechanically fastening with nails or screws and plates. Applies asphalt shingles, slate, metal, tile, cedar shakes. Installs sheet metal trim, flashings. Applies underlayment, felt, synthetics and ice and water shield. When applying EPDM, PVC or other single-ply membranes, rolls out the roofing membrane and seals the seams as specified by the manufacturer of the membrane. Cuts roofing materials to size. Cuts strips of flashing and fits into angles formed by walls, vents, and intersecting roofing surfaces. The Foreman also performs other job-related duties as may be assigned.

 

Safety:  The Foreman is responsible for the overall safety at the job site and the safety of the employees, including:

  • Enforcing safety policy

  • Overseeing set up of fall protection and safety policy

  • Maintaining presence of MSDS sheets and informing employees’ as to its presence

  • Enforcing smoking rules and fire prevention rules

  • On-site supervisor for asbestos

 

Roof Technology:  The Foreman is directly responsible for a project in regard to:

  • Production

  • Quality

  • Temporary water-tightness

 

Material Management.  The Foreman is responsible for:

  • Planning, scheduling, and coordination with office staff regarding material and equipment requirements

  • Ensuring the project is a clean, wind-proof and watertight project during construction

 

Equipment Operation:  The Foreman must be proficient in the use of all equipment used in roofing applications.

 

Supervision:  The Foreman is responsible for:

  • The morale of the crew

  • Attending employee review of individual members of crew

  • Notifying office of disciplinary problems

  • Coordinating with the Superintendent the project schedule and goals

  • Daily condition meeting with crew

  • Weekly paperwork

Qualifications

Qualifications (FOREMAN LEVEL EXPERIENCE):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience with roofing.

  • Experience in a construction-related industry and/or job, preferred.

  • The ability to cut, hammer, fasten and otherwise work with roofing materials.

  • The ability to perform basic math functions.

  • The ability to communicate effectively and follow written or verbal instructions and safety rules.
