Assistant Estimator

Summary of Functions:

The Assistant Estimator will perform a variety of duties which can include attending pre-bid meetings, filling out documentation for permits, performing core tests, preparing and submitting bid proposals.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Must be able to perform work duties as assigned and have a practical understanding of the following responsibilities and tasks. Those duties include, but are not limited to;


  1. Estimating Roofing Projects: The Assistant Estimator is responsible for having a clear understanding of the estimating procedures as trained by Merit and must be able to perform them in an efficient and timely manner.

    • Determine drawing and specification requirements (i.e. measuring roofs)

    • Solicit and secure material and subcontractor quotes

    • Prepare and price labor and material estimates

    • Prepare and submit bid proposals

    • Prepare documentation 

  2. Office

    • Filling out documentation for building permits

    • Filling out documentation for weekly progress reports

    • Attending bi-weekly staff meetings

    • Perform core tests, when needed

    • Aid in the securement of contracts

    • Assisting in the project management process

    • Ordering and scheduling of project materials

    • Obtaining physical measurements& attributes of existing buildings


Organizational Relationships:

This position will directly report to the Sr. Estimator/President. There will be frequent interaction with Project Managers as well as regular interaction with other office personnel.

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or (3) years of construction related experience

  • Experience in roofing industry

  • Computer literate/CADD experience

  • General knowledge of construction

  • Ability to read blueprints

  • The ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to use computer estimating software

Must be able to work and perform what would be considered standard practices for this type of position in the industry.
